Yoke Valve

Definition

A yoke valve is a type of scuba tank valve where the regulator is clamped over the valve using a yoke bracket.

More on Yoke Valve

Yoke valves, also called A-clamp valves, are widely used in recreational diving. The regulator first stage fits over the valve and is held in place by tightening a screw. This creates a seal with an O-ring that sits on the tank side. They are easier to attach than DIN systems but slightly more prone to O-ring failure under high pressure or rough handling. Yoke fittings are common in warm water resorts and entry-level scuba setups.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yoke clamps over the tank valve externally; DIN screws directly into the valve, offering more secure high-pressure seal.
They’re rated for lower pressures (up to 232 bar) and are fine for recreational depths, but not for high-pressure tech diving.
Inspect it before each dive, replace if worn or cracked, and keep it free from sand or grease.
They’re simpler to use, fit most rental gear, and remain standard in many recreational dive centers worldwide.
